CoachSim™ Pro vs CoachTrainer.AI
Two AI client simulators. Which one prepares you for a real, difficult client?
Both let you coach an AI client and get scored on the ICF Core Competencies. CoachSim™ Pro is shaped by 1,000+ hours of real coaching, goes up to Extreme difficulty and scores against the 2025 framework. Here's how they compare.
Same idea. Four differences that decide how real practice feels.
CoachSim™ Pro and CoachTrainer.AI are built on the same idea, and we think it's the right one. The AI plays the client, you do the coaching, and the session is scored against the ICF Core Competencies. Both work by text or voice, and both offer dashboards for coaching schools. Where they differ:
CoachSim™ Pro was designed by a practising ICF PCC coach. Its clients draw on hundreds of real coaching scenarios from 1,000+ hours of real sessions. CoachTrainer.AI's creators are experienced trainers whose listed expertise includes agile, training design, sales and the ICF Coaching Competencies.
CoachSim™ Pro has four difficulty levels, up to Extreme. CoachTrainer.AI organises its 130+ scenarios by situation, without stated difficulty levels.
CoachSim™ Pro evaluates against the 2025 ICF Core Competencies. CoachTrainer.AI's competency guide describes the 2019 model as current.
CoachSim™ Pro is a one-off payment for a block of sessions. CoachTrainer.AI is a monthly subscription.
If you want the cheapest way to start, CoachTrainer.AI's free first session is hard to beat. If you want practice that feels closest to a real, difficult client, built by someone who coaches for a living, CoachSim™ Pro was made for you.

What makes a simulated client feel real.
Built by a coach, from real coaching
A simulated client is only as good as what it was built from. Real clients go quiet, change the subject, push back, hide what's actually going on, and agree with you just to end the conversation. Inventing that from scratch is hard.
CoachSim™ Pro was designed by Steven Lock, an ICF PCC coach. Its clients draw on hundreds of real coaching scenarios from more than 1,000 hours of real sessions with corporate clients. The aim is a client that responds the way real clients do, not the way a well-written prompt expects them to. Just as in real coaching, you won't know your client's challenges in advance.
CoachTrainer.AI's creators describe themselves as experienced trainers (ICAgile, Training from the Back of the Room, Diagnostic Sales). That's real expertise in teaching. Its About page lists ICF Coaching Competencies among its areas of expertise, but it doesn't name the people behind the product or an ICF credential (ACC, PCC or MCC). Its scenario pages don't say how its clients were built.
A client you can hear, not just read
"I suppose… I could speak to my manager."
Real coaching is spoken, and so is CoachSim™ Pro's new hands-free Voice. Once your microphone is on, you simply talk. There's no button to press each time you speak and nothing to type, so the conversation flows the way a real session does.
The client answers out loud, with natural intonation, emotion, pace, hesitation and thinking pauses. A client may sound guarded about a difficult relationship, or slow down while trying to put an uncomfortable feeling into words. You coach what you hear, not just what you read.
In Advanced and Extreme sessions, the dialogue stays hidden until the evaluation, so you have to listen the way you would with a real client. Afterwards, your spoken questions and the client's replies are transcribed and scored like any other session. Text practice is still there whenever you want it.
A difficulty ladder up to Extreme
Most coaches can handle a cooperative client who answers every question thoughtfully. The ones who struggle at Mentor Coaching usually struggle with something harder.
CoachSim™ Pro lets you choose Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced or Extreme. For example, an Advanced session might be "Exec coaching: resistant client, undisclosed agenda." You can start where you're comfortable and move up deliberately. Your progress graph shows your scores at each level separately, so an easy session can't make you look better than you are.
Scored against the 2025 competencies
In 2025, ICF updated its Core Competencies. The eight competencies stayed, but ICF added five new sub-competencies and revised several others, with Embodies a Coaching Mindset changing most (ICF summary).
CoachSim™ Pro evaluates every session against the 2025 framework. CoachTrainer.AI's competency guide still describes the 2019 model as current. If you're preparing for a credential, practise against the version ICF's credential exams move to from late 2026.
Feedback written like a mentor coach's
Every CoachSim™ Pro evaluation gives, for each competency, what happened, what to try next time, and a score:
Scoring is strict by design. The goal is to show your gaps before your mentor coach does, not to make you feel good.
Pay once, practise on your schedule
Most coaches don't practise steadily all year. They practise hard for a few weeks before Mentor Coaching or a credential application. A subscription suits a steady habit. A one-off block of sessions suits a focused push.
CoachSim™ Pro is SGD 29 for 10 sessions or SGD 49 for 20, paid once, with no subscription to cancel. Sessions currently don't expire.
Why this matters more in 2027
New ACC and PCC Portfolio applicants will no longer submit a single recorded performance evaluation. Instead, they'll complete enhanced mentor coaching: at least three months, with at least three coaching sessions observed and reviewed by a mentor coach who holds ICF's Mentor Coach Specialization. Source: ICF
That means your mentor will watch you coach several times. Practice that is realistic, hard, and scored against the current framework is the best preparation for that.
Neither CoachSim™ Pro nor any AI tool replaces Mentor Coaching or counts toward ICF coaching-experience hours. AI practice builds skill. Hours still come from real clients.
